For nearly ten years, a broad-based coalition has led the charge for conservation in Doña Ana County. On May 21, 2014, President Obama established the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument.
The new monument possesses a rich diversity of Chihuahuan Desert wild lands and unique Pre-American, New Mexican, and American history including training sites for the Apollo Space Mission, the Butterfield Stagecoach Trail, Billy the Kid’s Outlaw Rock, Geronimo’s Cave, World War II aerial targets, and thousands of Native American petroglyphs and pictographs.
As we move forward, we will help shape the management plan for the new national monument and push for wilderness areas within the monument. Your continued support is critical in our success.
